The great people at Lucas Oil have produced a really good product here. It is extremely versatile and suitable for just about any engine out there, perfect for easy to perform, time-saving maintenance. When you look at this product a little closer, it’s easy to see why it’s so good.
The product is designed to be extremely safe to use and thus contains no solvents, alcohol, kerosene, diesel fuel or anything else that could damage engine parts. It consists of various super slick oils and additives which are designed to lubricate the various systems it flows through, as-well as helping break up gunk in the injectors. This allows the fuel to burn more effectively within the engine, reducing fuel consumption. It is also able to replace the benefits of leaded fuel without the negative side-effects, so it’s great for use in older vehicles that require leaded fuel. And because it also neutralizes the harmful effects of low sulfur diesel fuel, it is similarly great for use in any diesel engine.
Here’s a great video showcasing how this additive increased MPG by about 20%, now that’s amazing!

One of the methods that this product uses to achieve these results has got to do with replacing polymers. Basically, most low sulfur diesel fuels and gasolines have had their polymers removed to comply with the government regulations for reducing fuel fumes in the air. While the goal was achieved, this also caused the fuel to become less lubricated and thus less efficient. We have cleaner air, but less useful gasoline.
Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner replaces those lost polymers with a specific concentrate that has none of the negative side-effects of the polymers.
Instead, the concentrate works as a lubricant that makes the fuel slicker and more efficient and powerful. Not only will the increased fuel efficiency result in lowered fuel consumption, it also increases power while reducing emissions. Slicker fuel also helps to lubricate the cylinder walls and rings, prolonging their life-span. And not only that, intake valves, pumps, carburetors, injectors and compression rings are also lubricated. An absolute must for rotary engines.
Any way you look at it, this Lucas fuel injector cleaner is a winning product. And don’t worry about shelf life, it lasts just about indefinitely.
How to use?
- Pour Lucas Fuel Treatment directly into the fuel tank.
- Recommended dosage is 2-3 ounces of Fuel Treatment per 10 gallons of fuel.
- Exceeding the recommended dosage is not harmful to your vehicle (but why be wasteful).
Conclusions
The Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner is without a doubt one of the best products on the market. No wonder it is our top pick when it comes to injector cleaners. Many cleaners make aggressive claims about their effectiveness, but most fail to deliver.
Not the case with this Lucas Oil product. Whether you are looking to clean your gasoline or diesel engines because of clogging symptoms or simply looking for a fuel additive to give your engine a little oomph, this is the product to go for.
Pick the suitable container size for the amount of fuel you want to treat and enjoy the benefits!
How often should it be poured in the gas tank? I have started using it: the last two tank refills at the recommended dosage. I was wondering if more frequently at the beginning to clean the mess, and then less frequently…(?)
Thanks!
Hi. I use Lucas Fuel Trtmnt in every fill up. It’s the best cleaner around for my money. You especially need it for winter blend fuels. If I don’t use it, my engine gets very sluggish. Use it often.
so this product seems to work very well in my 2010 f-450 with 6.4L engine. 3 – 4 ounces per 10 gallons seems pretty light….I seem to notice more of a difference in the sound of the fuel pumps and the operation of the engine if I add considerably more. is there any more data on how much you really can use of this stuff. Am I clogging up my DPF if I exceed the recommended min mix ratio? here is a chart about the various lube values of the different types of diesel fuels. is adding 3 – 4 ounces really as good as using High Sulfur Diesel fuel #2 from a lube prospective? thanks for the great product.
Product Sulfur Percentage Quantity Of Lubricant (35 Gallons) Quantity of Lubricant (1 Gallon)
High Sulfur Diesel #2 0.5 – 2% 22.4 – 89.6 Ounces 0.64 – 2.56 Ounces
Low Sulfur Diesel #2 0.05% 2.24 Ounces 0.064 Ounces
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel #2 0.0015% 0.0672 Ounces 0.00192 Ounces
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel #1 0.0015% 0.0672 Ounces 0.00192 Ounces
I used this in my 5.6 liter nissan titan because my service engine soon light came on. The diagnostic code read possible dirty fuel injectors. After using lukas after two full tanks of fuel the engine light went out. I went to the motor vehicle inspection and passed no problem!
I have a 2008 Ford F-350 6.4 diesel and I was adding Lucas over the past winter , After a while my truck was going into exhaust cleaning mode, and I developed exhaust leaks causing turbo noise. I took it in for service and found the particulate filter was plugged and blew out exhaust gaskets and burned sensors in the system from heat. I’m into the repair for $2000.00 with exhaust manifold gaskets and cleaning filter.
Hello I accidentally put a maybe 2 tablespoons of upper fuel injector treatment into the oil reservoir ( where oil is inserted) thinking that it was the Lucas oil treatment it’s a 2012 Honda a sonata four-cylinder will this hurt the engine or cause any problems
I do not believe this small amnt. would hurt anathing, but I would not recommend running it for a long time.It might clean it up a little. I might leave it for a 1000 miles max, but for peace of mind change the oil the first chance possible especially if I was running it hard on the road. If short city driving ,I would not sweat it.
A great product..have used Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant for years in my Corvettes..Cadillacs..Always keeps them running smooth..great performance. Again a great product..
My engine light came on after driving the car about 2 hours off and on and it started hurling and trying to cut off but I made it home so I bought injection cleaner and never drove it no more the today do you think that will work or maybe need to get it checked out.
I spun wrenches for many years, would you please tell me what happens when your engine started “hurling”. What I read,I think you should check with a good mechanic to to diagnose your problem. But don’t go in & tell him you have a”hurling problem”. Seriously, I am not making fun of you, but shops need specific facts & symptoms to repair your car correctly. I.e. It cuts out under load, stalls, excalerates poorly. This is stuff they understand. But a “hurling” situation ,I would have trouble fixing.
